Frequently asked questions.

Why have I not heard of this before?

Irlen Syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome was discovered in 1983, meaning it is still relatively new in the world of science. Dr. Daniel Amen, a neurologist, produced some of the first brain scans or functional MRIs of the brain with Irlen filters and has talked about Irlen Syndrome on his podcast as well as in his videos with celebrity clients. There is still a lot of advocacy to be done and misinformation to combat. Strive to Thrive Resources has been and will continue to share about Irlen Syndrome with as many people as we can. If you would like to have Strive to Thrive Resources speak to your eye doctors, neurologist, primary care physician, teachers, principals, schools, or work contact us.

What to expect in a screening?

Screenings can take 60-90 minutes. If it was scheduled privately it will be conducted in our office located at 17250 Dallas Parkway in Dallas, Texas. If it was scheduled through a school or other organization it may be conducted at those facilities or in our office. During the screening, the client and or parent will be asked a series of questions about their symptoms, followed by a standardized diagnostic screening. This can include viewing multiple images and being asked to read or count for the screener. If you or your child is identified as having Irlen Syndrome then we will fit you with the proper overlays and discuss your personalized options moving forward.

How many overlays should I use?

We recommend that you have at least 2 sets of your personalized overlays. One for school or work and one for home. Due to the nature of the treatment being light and light refraction, if the overlays get bent or scratched it can inhibit its therapeutic benefits.

Do I need Irlen glasses or overlays?
